Orthopedic Rehab and Sports Medicine
We treat individuals with a wide-range of injuries and disorders of the muscle, bones, and joints. In most cases, patients are referred to us by their physician or orthopedic surgeon. Our clients include, for example, patients who need to regain range of motion following joint replacement surgery and workers dealing with a repetitive strain injury. A comprehensive list of what we treat can be found in the column to the right (if you are viewing from a desktop computer). We also specialize in treating athletes with injuries that are hindering their performance or preventing them from playing. We are proud to give back to our community by providing the athletic training services to Blissfield High School.
Dry Needling
Dry Needling is a very successful medical treatment which uses very thin, solid needles without medication to achieve its aim. This technique works by changing the way your body senses pain and by helping the body heal stubborn muscle spasms associated with trigger points. These trigger points can cause local muscle dysfunction, neuromuscular problems, and headaches. The beauty is that Dry Needling can provide pain relief and improved function without the use of addicting pain medication or surgery. Often patients will describe that they barely feel that the needle has been used and report an absolute reduction of pain post-intervention compared to pre-intervention.
Cupping
Cupping is utilized to provide decompression to trigger points and to provide improved alignment of fascia. This treatment is excellent in helping to reduce pain, improved active and passive motion, and provide myofascial release. It also feels amazing!
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)
Our clinicians are trained in the utilization of Rock Blades which are tools which are implemented to improve soft tissue mobility. Tissue often gets restriction in the sites of prior injury, surgical sites, and in regions with pain-limiting musculature. Fascial restrictions are widely recognized as a pain generator and the cause of many tissue extensibility problems. Through clinical research, use of IASTM techniques have demonstrated to have a beneficial effect on the management of pathological adhesions and in the speeding up of healing rates. Rock Blades use can be pain-free or appropriately aggressive depending on the dysfunction. However, a reason we went with Rock Blades instead of Graston and ASTYM techniques is because of feedback from patients who have had significant pain and visible bruising following those techniques. Rock Blades, as a treatment philosophy, does not cause that much agitation or pain.
Back Care
Individuals suffering from back pain will find relief at our clinic. Our therapists are trained in the most effective treatments available for back care. Back pain negatively disrupts every aspect of a person’s life, from workday responsibilities to nighttime sleep. We treat patients with the latest exercises, stretching, and manipulation procedures to rehabilitate the spine. We also offer pain relief with techniques such as mechanical traction, dry needling, cold laser, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and more.
